941 Athletic Strength and Conditioning S1 .5 Credit Grades 10, 11, 12
This elective course will give an introduction to basic strength training fundamentals, training techniques, and concepts to help develop athletic ability at the high school level. Core and auxiliary lifting techniques, core (abdominal lower back) strengthening, simple agility and plyometrics, along with some cardiovascular endurance work is included. Weight room procedures and functional strength/flexibilty will be the base of knowledge for the course. Students will be engaged in a four day program designed to improve upper/lower body strength, power generation (lower/upper body), joint flexibility, and range of motion, as well as improving overall personal health. Students will complete a 12 week computerized program as a tool to evaluate participation. Pre and post semester testing in upper and lower body strength, lower-body power, agility, speed, and flexibility will be administered and analyzed to track student progress. Students can take this course a maximum of 4 times for 2.0 total credits.
**Coaches strongly encourage all multi-sport athletes to sign up for strength training classes as they are not able to train after school due to their practices and competitions.

944 Athletic Training and Sport Officiating .5 Credit Grades 10, 11, 12
This class is designed for students that are interested in learning the basic components of Athletic Training and Sports Officiating. Students will be required to follow the Minnesota State High School League requirements to be certified to officiate two MSHSL sport activities during the course of the class.
Students will learn the fundamentals of Athletic Officiating:
-Basic rules of MSHSL officials in chosen sports.
-Code of Conduct for MSHSL Officials.
-Code of Conduct for MSHSL Coaches.
-Code of Conduct for MSHSL Student Athletes.
Students will learn the following fundamentals of Athletic Training:
- Body muscles and joints.
- Taping athletic injuries.
- First Aid and CPR.
- To identify symptoms of concussions and understanding concussion protocol. (Not Diagnose)
- Learn an understanding of on-sight protocol.
- Understand code of ethics of an athletic trainer.
(This class does not qualify an individual to participate as a Certified Athletic Trainer.)

Activities at this grade level stress the individual sport areas and lifetime recreational sports. Swimming and rhythm/dance units are included in class curriculum. This class is required for graduation from HHS. Successful completion of this class is needed to register for one of the other PE electives.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Grade 8
913 Team and Lifetime Sports .5 Credit Grades 10, 11, 12 Activities for this class will stress the traditional recreational and lifetime team sports; both indoor and outdoor. Students will learn the basic skills, rules, and practice needed for each sport.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Grade 9 Gym
915 The Fitness Zone .5 Credit Grades 10, 11, 12
This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and necessary attitudes for a lifetime of personal fitness and activity. This class promotes the development and maintenance of personal fitness. Fitness zone is a combination of six fitness types: Weight training, flexibility, endurance, walking, balance, and yoga. The curriculum includes workouts from very well known Beachbody sponsored work outs such as Shaun-T Insanity workouts, 21 Day fix, and p90x. Other enjoyable recreational activities will be included such as yoga, walking routines, and bosu to name a few. Students will practice and be assessed on work out planning, nutrition basics, active participation, and their personal advice on how to become more intrinsically motivated to live a healthy life style.
911 Aquatics .5 Credit Grades 10, 11, 12
This class is designed for students that have an updated certified lifeguard certificate. Students must be in grades 10-12th (16 years of age) to register for the class. Students that sign up for this class, register with the understanding that they will lifeguard 7-12th grade physical education classes to earn a semester credit towards Physical Education
