SUBJECT: 506 Corporal Punishment

The following definition shall be used to clarify this policy:
“Corporal punishment” means conduct involving hitting or spanking a person with or without an object, or unreasonable physical force that causes bodily harm or substantial emotional harm.
No employee or agent of the school district shall cause corporal punishment to be inflicted upon a student to reform unacceptable conduct or as a penalty for unacceptable conduct.
School district employees may use reasonable force to restrain a student only when necessary to prevent the student from injuring him or herself, others, or property or to prevent bodily harm or death to another.
