The State of Minnesota, by statutory and constitutional authority, vests the care, management, and control of the schools in the school board.

Elected members of the school board have binding authority only when acting as a school board legally in session, except where specific authority is provided to school board members or officers individually.  The school board shall not be bound by an action or statement on the part of an individual school board member unless the action is specifically directed or authorized by the school board.

Membership of the school board of Independent School District No. 701, Hibbing, Minnesota shall consist of six elected directors, together with the Superintendent of Schools as an ex-officio member.  Directors are elected at the general election in November of odd numbered years, for terms of four (4) years. Terms begin on the first day of January.

A vacancy on the school board shall be filled as set forth in M.S. 123B.09, subd. 3, 4, and 5.
