SUBJECT: 611 Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate all students are required to:

1. Pass the Minnesota Graduation tests in Reading, Mathematics, and Written Compositions as per state requirements or higher requirements, as established by the school board.
2. Successfully complete the course work in grades 7 and 8; and
3. Commencing with the 2003-2004 school year, all students entering the ninth grade must satisfactorily complete the following Minnesota Academic Standards, in accordance with the standards developed by the Department of Education in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and the Arts.
    
    AND

All students in grades 9-12 must complete a total of 20.5 credits for those graduating in 2006 and 2007 and 21.5 credits for those graduating in 2008 and beyond.  These credits must include a minimum of:

A.    4 credits in Language Arts (English)

       4 credits for those graduating in 2006 and 2007 and 3.5 credits in Social Studies for those graduating in 2008 and beyond which encompass at least United State History, geography, government and citizenship, world history, and economics;

      3 credits in Mathematics encompassing algebra, geometry, statistics and probability;

      1 credit in Science for those graduating in 2006 and 2007 and 3 credits for those graduating in 2008 and beyond encompassing at least general science and biology;

      1 credit in Physical Education

      0.5 credit in Health (during the junior year),

      1 credit in the Arts (visual arts, music, theater, or media arts) for those graduating in 2008 and beyond.

      The remaining credits needed are selected by the student. 7 credits for those graduating in 2006 and 2007 and 5.5 credits for those graduating in 2008 and beyond.
      In addition to the credit requirement, all students must pass the Minnesota State required graduation tests in Mathematics, Reading, and Written Composition.

OR   

B.    Have met the requirements established in the student’s individual education program plan.

OR   

C.    Have met the requirements of the Alternative Learning Program.

Residency Requirement

A student transferring to Hibbing High School must be enrolled in Hibbing High School for a minimum of one semester prior to graduation.
Students from Non-Traditional Schooling

Students transferring to Hibbing High School from a non-traditional school environment must submit a transcript of all classes taken and grades earned.

Early Graduation

Students may be considered for early graduation, as provided for within state law.
