HOME OF THE JR. 'JACKETS

The Washington Elementary School was built in 1956. It was originally a K-6 building. The grade configuration was changed to a K-2 building with the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year. Class size for 1st and 2nd grades is in the mid twenties. Our kindergarten students attend all day every day.  The Washington School also houses, the 4 year old, School Readiness Program through Community Ed.

Our highly qualified staff work with our students and families to develop positive partnerships that lead to a successful school year. Besides instruction from their classroom teacher, our students receive instruction from specialists in art, music, physical education, and media. Title 1 services are also available. Homework Helper, a program funded through Community Education, provides additional assistance for students during the school day. For students with English as their second language, a licensed ESL is employed in the district.

Washington School has a supportive Parent-Teacher Organization and a very active Parent Volunteer Program. There are various opportunities for parents to become involved through our PTO.  Our school Spirit Night which is held in September, is an evening for the family that includes entertainment and a light snack.

Our school year begins with a district wide Visitation Day, the Tuesday after Labor day. Students come to school for a short time in the morning or afternoon with a parent or guardian to meet their teacher, drop off school supplies, take their school picture, and visit with other returning families and friends. This has been a positive approach for the start of the new school year.

Top notch staff, involved parents, special programs, and supportive services provide our students with excellent learning opportunities all within a tight knit family atmosphere.
